I remember when I was younger, I couldn’t have been older than 4 years old, we were sailing somewhere near the Canary Islands and other holidaymakers were jumping off the boat for a swim.
I was terrified that there might have been sharks or that I might sink to the bottom.
I refused to jump and caused a commotion in my hysteria.
Without warning, my dad picked me up and threw me in…
Needless to say, it took me a long while to forgive him for that.
And I didn’t.
Not until I was 23 and I realised that sometimes you don’t get a choice.
Life won’t pander to your fears.
It’s cruel and merciless.
Sometimes, you just have to learn to keep your head above the water on your own.
Equally, we need to learn to let people figure it out for themselves.
It’s tough, especially when you feel like you know what’s best for them but just like 4-year-old Bryn, they have their own lessons to learn.
