If you have little to no audience, there’s no better time to be shit than right now.
There are hundreds of thousands, if not millions of blogs on the internet. Before creating this one, I’d taken months to decide how it was going to be presented. I contemplated multiple colour schemes, different themes, editorial voicing, branding, user experience (UX), search engine optimisation, social media marketing strategy and even sales funnels. (I don’t have a product yet).
The problem with this is that all these factors have changed dramatically since I started, and I have no doubt they’ll continue to do so as time goes on. So effectively, the months I spent pondering over these considerations were made up of wasted time.
With that in mind, there is no better time to start than right now. Take this time to gain valuable experience, develop your style rather than just thinking about it, tell me what you’re doing instead of what you’re going to do and ask your virtual mentors for feedback.
I recently reached out to a couple of my favourite marketers and professionals, doing just that.
Andrew and Pete, best known for their unique and outrageous approach to content marketing, gave me invaluable advice with regards to the design of this blog and insight into how they achieve the fantastic look and feel of their own site following their recent rebrand.
Whilst Andrew of Optimisey.com, who I know only through Twitter, took a huge chunk of time out of his day to give me a tonne of advice regarding the SEO and UX of my site(s).
Not only were they willing to help me out despite the huge workload I know they all have, but they did so for free.
I want to reiterate how important it is to just start. You can read all the books in the world on any of the above topics, but until you do shit you are just a theorist. There is help out there if you get stuck and with no audience what do you have to lose?
